When I embarked on my photography journey in 2012, my knowledge of the craft was minimal. My initial fascination was with the hawks that soared across the county, prompting me to purchase a  camera. Lacking familiarity with settings or camera features, I set the camera to auto mode and carried it everywhere. Often, while driving, I would spot a hawk perched and abruptly stop to capture an image, typically resulting in a poor shot as the bird flew away. However, the excitement I felt when an image was in focus was memorable. A few months later, I enrolled in a community class at the local college to learn more about the camera’s functions. Recognizing my passion for wildlife photography, I diligently watched YouTube tutorials, invested in appropriate equipment, mastered challenging settings, and undertook my first safari in 2017.
Since acquiring my camera, I have had the privilege of meeting remarkable individuals, traveling extensively, and forming friendships worldwide. I have witnessed the majestic tigers of India and the big five of Africa from mere yards away. I have ventured into Costa Rica’s forests, capturing its diverse species, and explored Argentina beyond its urban centers. These experiences are enriched by engaging with local cultures, cuisines, and histories, making them memorable beyond the images captured.
For me, a safari is much more than a photographic endeavor; it is a comprehensive, sensory experience that evokes positive emotions whenever I recall these places or view the images. This is the experience I strive to offer those who join my tours.
On a more personal note, I grew up amidst various cultures. Born in Brooklyn and raised in Argentina, my family heritage is predominantly Austrian-German-Jewish, with relatives across the globe. This background has fostered my appreciation for diverse cultures and languages. Since 1987, I have resided in San Luis Obispo County, California, where I raised my daughters, owned several businesses, and spent 30 years in financial services. Now, I dedicate my time to photography, assisting photographers during safaris and Meetup outings, and conducting workshops.
